Ridge Augmentation

Depending on the prosthetic treatment plan, either as a soft tissue (gum) or hard tissue (bone) a graft can correct the depression in the jawbone where natural tooth/teeth are missing.

Occasionally hard tissue ridge augmentation is necessary to re-create the bony ridge and better environment, once a tooth is deemed non-restorable and is removed.

Following an extraction, to minimize the bone loss due to remodeling, bone graft material is introduced to the extraction socket (Ridge Preservation). Ridge Augmentaion and Ridge Preservation is extremely important if the reconstructive procedure is an implant.

Another form of enhancing the ridge is when the posterior teeth of the upper jaw has been missing for sometime or after the removal of the non-restorable maxillary molar, the residual ridge is of inadequate height and in proximity to the maxillary sinus. A procedure called Sinus lift will be performed, and depending on the remaining bone height an internal or external approach will be selected. Occasionally Sinus grafting and implant placement can be completed simultaneously.
