Pre-OP Instructions

  • Before you schedule for your periodontal/ implant surgery, be sure that you have no conflicts, i.e. next day trip, major presentations/ exams, or important social engagements scheduled! Expect to have mild to moderate discomfort, facial swelling, and burses at the surgical site.

  • One week before the surgery, contact the office to get the RX for antimicrobial mouthwash, and start rinsing 24 hours prior to the surgery. If you have been given a prescription for antibiotics to take before the surgery, please remember to follow the instructions.

  • On the day of the surgery, make sure you have a good meal before your scheduled appointment. Remember to brush your teeth and rinse thoroughly.

  • Wear comfortable clothing. Listening to music, while having the surgery, is certainly fine and encouraged, so remember to bring your favorite playlist. Plan to go home and relax after the surgery and consider having an easy schedule 48 hours post-op.

  • If you are requesting Oral sedative medication, please arrange for someone to accompany you to your appointment and to take you home.

  • Discontinue any medication, 5-7 days prior to your appointment that may enhance bleeding during your surgery. (i.e. Aspirin 325mg, Vit. E, etc.)

  • If you have any systemic disorders such as diabetes, are on Coumadin or have been diagnosed with osteoporosis and are taking bis-phosphonate medications for more than 3 years, some pre-op blood work will be necessary.

  • If you have to change the scheduled 2- hour-surgery for any reason, please, call the office 48 hours in advance to inform the office of the cancellation.

  • If you have concerns regarding your insurance or payment, please, take care of it before your scheduled appointment.

  • If you feel uncertain regarding the recommended treatment, try to schedule a brief consultation, prior to your surgery date. Extended re-consultation on your surgery date may not allow enough time for the procedure and you may need to reschedule.

  • We would appreciate you being present on time for your appointment, but please be considerate, if you are kept waiting due to some unforeseen circumstances related to another patient or treatment.

  • Please be courteous and turn off your cell phone as you are being escorted to the treatment area.

  • We would like to document some of our surgeries, so, occasional clinical photos of the surgical field only, will be taken for the purpose of presentations. If you wish not to participate, please let us know.
